Here's to a fabulous year of surfing in Tofino! At the end of every year it’s always a good idea to look back and review all the wonderful things that have happened—helps you see where you’ve come and where you’re going. Here is a top ten list of all the reasons 2004 has proved the best year Surf Sister Surf School has ever had:
10. Surfrider! Surf Sister stays active in our support of The Surfrider Foundation, most recently in an effort to prevent offshore drilling in the Tofino area. Check out this great organization at http://www.surfingvancouverisland.com/surfrider/ and see what you can do to help.
9. Billabong! We were lucky enough to have our favorite surf company, Billabong, step up as our main sponsor in Tofino. Billabong is one of the original surf companies, still leading the pack in technological surf advances. You have them to thank for being able to surf with Surf Sister and stay warm all year long!
8. Every new instructor we had the pleasure of working with this summer: Thank-you Steph, Lily, Tia, Rhiannon, and Rachal! You girls rock!
7. Every surfing instructor who has been in Tofino year after year helping get girls in the water: Thanks Louise, Krissy, Marie, Nadia, Jenny, Molly and Myriah!
6. Mason! Surf Sister’s newest, most precious addition to the team this year is Jenny and Mike Stewart’s little baby, Mason, born September 16, 2004.
5. Milagro Retreats! Once again, Surf Sister is proud to have worked with our friend, Shani of Milagro, providing surfing lessons for their excellent yoga/surf retreats in Cabo San Lucas, BCS, Mexico and Tofino. Check them out at www.milagroretreats.com.
4. Our new Surf Sister Van! Defies all laws of science by fitting up to 15 surfboards and 3 surfing instructors to help keep every lesson fun and efficient! See the big red beast (adorned with hibiscus flowers, of course) at a beach near you!
3. Billabong Surf Camps! For our Billabong sponsored 2-day August clinic in Tofino, over 50 lucky girls had professional surfers Molli Miller and Belen Connelly as guest instructors in the water. Not only did the pros show everyone how it’s done they were kind enough to sign autographs for every girl on the lesson, and the Billabong prize-packs were better than ever! Keep updated on what Molli and Belen are doing at www.billabonggirls.com. This is just one more reason showing how Tofino's surfing scene is one of the best in the world.
2. The greatest staff trip ever! Baja California Sur, Mexico last January: Great friends, great waves, great fun! Only to be outdone by 2005’s staff trip to Hawaii. Aloha! (Just to be clear: We love Tofino surfing, but we also love bikinis and warm water!)
1. Every single one of you who came surfing with Surf Sister Surf School in 2004! We had the pleasure to teach more people than ever how to surf in Tofino this year. See you all in the water in 2005!
